What the calculator is for

The import calculator estimates a total: vehicle + US inland + ocean + duty + VAT + fees. You also get it on a lot page with a prefilled price (current bid, Buy Now, average, or hammer).

It is not a binding quote. Final amounts are on the invoice. Exchange rate, actual inland, title waiting, and extra work will change the result.

What you enter

  1. Pickup ZIP in the USA (5 digits) or the auction branch — inland depends on this.
  2. Vehicle price in USD.
  3. Vehicle type (car, motorcycle, …) — duty rate.
  4. Source auction vs dealer — fees may change.
  5. Made in USA — if that is on the manufacturer plate, the estimate uses 0% duty. Otherwise the rate for the type applies. Final duty is set in customs clearance. This toggle is on the standalone import calculator. The lot calculator does not currently offer the checkbox — it uses the standard duty rate until you turn Made in USA on in the standalone calculator.

On a lot we can match the branch from the auction code. If the ZIP does not match, pick a branch from the list. Full yard list: auction branches.

How to read the result

You see a total including VAT, the amount excluding VAT, transit days, and a breakdown: vehicle, inland, ocean, auction / dealer fees, insurance, duty, VAT, other import costs. Where possible we compare ports.

GetCars fee or dealer fee in the breakdown is part of the service estimate — the exact lines appear on case invoices.

Made in USA

The plate in the engine bay / on the frame. Do not confuse it with “the car is currently in the USA”. If you are unsure, leave duty on in the estimate and ask us with the VIN.

Calculator not working

Sometimes we compute from stored rates when the live API is down. You will see a notice. Still treat the result as an estimate. Network error: try again, or send us ZIP, price, and vehicle type.
