Why recommendations exist
US auction cars are not a showroom. Sellers, titles, history, and previous no-sales differ a lot. On every lot GetCars shows our recommendation. It is not a warranty of condition and not a formal inspection. It tells you when you can bid straight away and when we want to review first.
We combine three things. The stricter badge always wins (does not recommend > check > recommends):
- Who is selling — an insurance seller can lead to “recommends”. A dealer, rental, lease, or other seller means check. On the lot you see the seller name; if the name is missing you will see Non-insurance Company.
- What title (paperwork) the car has — names: auction titles.
- Whether the car already sold at auction — if yes, the badge is always GetCars does not recommend (even for insurance).

Three badges
GetCars recommends this vehicle
Typically an insurance seller, ordinary title paperwork (Original / Clean / Salvage), and the car has not been sold at auction before.
Rule: bid and buy now go through immediately. We do not approve them by hand. You still need a deposit, plan limits, and the bid is binding.
GetCars recommends checking this vehicle
Most other cases: dealer, rental, lease, finance company, unknown seller, rebuilt / flood / missing paperwork, or a title worth a Carfax / a review with us.
Rule: you may bid and buy now, but you first send a request. GetCars approves or rejects it. Until then the status is Waiting for GetCars approval. After approval it is binding.
This always applies, even if your account may bid on not-recommended cars.
GetCars does not recommend this vehicle
The car already sold at auction, or its title is one GetCars will not buy (typically bill of sale / no title / open lien).
You still see the car. You can read photos and history. You cannot bid or buy now unless we enable permission on your account.
If you have permission:
- you see the buttons,
- it is still a request for approval,
- approval is not skipped — we review every such request.
GetCars turns permission on, not you. In your account you only see whether it is on. Want it? Tell us why (make, budget, that you understand the risk). We do not grant it to everyone.

What a recommendation is not
- Not a promise the car has no hidden damage.
- Not a substitute for Carfax, an inspection, or our manual look at the title.
- It is not based on your preference — it is computed from lot data when you bid. We store that badge on the bid.
