What the balance is (and is not)
The balance is money you prepaid at GetCars. You use it for Carfax, and GetCars can also pay an invoice from it. It is not a voucher for a single service.
The balance is not a deposit. The deposit is bidding security. The balance does not unlock bidding power, and you cannot pay Carfax with the deposit.
A top-up is not a taxable supply — we issue no tax document for it. VAT sits on the invoice for the service you pay from the balance. The balance always pays the full amount including VAT.
The balance does not earn interest.
Where to find it
In Carfax in the zone at the top: current amount, card or transfer top-up, and history. There is no separate menu tab — self-service spending is for Carfax.
Top up by card
- Enter an amount in the range the form shows.
- Choose Top up by card.
- You enter the card at Stripe. The card number does not come to us. We capture the payment immediately and credit the balance.
If Stripe later refunds the payment, we reduce the balance by the refunded amount. If some of it is already spent, we take back only what is left.
Top up by transfer
- Enter an amount and choose Top up by transfer.
- Send the exact amount with the variable symbol from the screen (QR in your banking app).
- When we match the transfer, the balance is credited. Usually within one business day.
An unmatched transfer is cancelled after 14 days. You may have only a few pending transfers at once — you will see the limit if another one cannot be created.
The variable symbol is different from a deposit or an invoice. Do not mix them.
Spending
- Carfax — on the report card, Pay from balance when enough funds remain.
- Invoices — GetCars starts a balance payment; there is no self-service button. Write to us if you want that.
If Carfax fails, we credit the amount back.
Unused balance refund
There is no self-service payout button. Write to us — contact. A refund may wait if you have unpaid invoices or an open dispute.
FAQ
Can I pay for a car I won with the balance?
Not directly. The vehicle is invoiced. GetCars can settle that invoice from the balance if you agree.
Does the balance merge with the deposit?
No. They are two ledgers. Refunding the deposit does not clear the balance, and the other way around.
An account with a balance or payments cannot be deleted.
We must keep the financial history. We can deactivate the account — security.
